The project that we’ve developed involves a collaboration between the animators of LYIT in all 4 years of the course and across Donegal. Having involved students, former students and lecturers, the project intends to demonstrate the creative talent of the college throughout the past, the present and future in its 50-year long history. It ultimately is a collective creative effort that “results from freeing oneself from one’s own conventional thinking” leading thus into an innovative result. (Andripoulous and Dawson 2009, p.24) Furthermore, the idea we decided to work on during this project had the fortunate timing of being next to the anniversary of the institute which by itself, which started off as the RTC and now holds the title of LYIT (Cavanagh, 2011)
Overall, it offered a creative and innovative solution to the way animators at LYIT have worked by conducting a project that brings together the college’s talents on the day of the anniversary of our college, encouraging teamwork as opposed to working on an individual more secluded level. The aim was that of a piece that flows from participant to participant to create an encapsulation of the college’s history showing thus the development and the contrast between the past and the present. Whereas in the past the creative scene in Ireland was more conservative, the level of freedom today "offered to the majority of those working in the creative industries” and in the creative field overall is “double-edged.” (Bilton 2007, p.84)

My Role:

This year in college was very eventful for me,  I have ran and managed many productions along with my own college projects such as CREATE CELEBRATE ANIMATIE, a 5-minute-long re-animation project involving over 30 animators in which I had to manage a team 6 of my classmates as well as the 30 other participants involved as part of my creativity and innovation module, as well as of course doing my own bit and creating a short animation for this project.

Throughout the year I discovered that working with people as a team and creating these kinds of productions was something I loved to do!
